A UNIQUE COUNTRY STORE
little piece of the country" can be found on Main Street in Windham at the Catskill Mountain Country Store and Restaurant, one of the area's best-loved family destinations. Owned and operated by husband and wife team Drew and Natasha Shuster (with the help from 11 year-old Sydney, 10 year old Augustus and 5 year-old Victoria Dehlila),this multi-faceted establishment not only offers some of the best breakfasts and lunches available on the Mountain Top, but also includes a unique country gift shop and a regional gourmet food store. A "looking zoo" with pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, and miniature horses, all rescued from local shelters, will delight children and adults alike.
Drew and Natasha Shuster Plan Magic Move in the Mountains
For many years, the Catskill Mountain Country Store on Route 23 in Windham, NY, has been providing locals and visitors to the area with a rich and memorable Northern Catskills experience—not the least of which are their famous home-baked goods and donuts, (started by their nine year old son). The Catskill Mountain Country Store complex includes a popular full-service bakery/restaurant, a beautifully merchandised country store and a garden center.
Business at the store is always brisk and adequate parking has always been an issue. As the first phase of an exciting expansion plan, the Shuster’s have embarked on an ambitious plan to move their historic house—the Old John Howard House built in 1852— up the mountain behind the store to make room for a new parking area.
Larmon Movers of Schuylerville, NY, will make the move in mid September. It promises to be quite a spectacle. The house move will begin September 8th and it will take 3 to 4 days to prepare the house. Using hydraulic jacks, they will raise the house off the existing foundation then lower it onto large pieces of wood that look like railroad ties in a process is called cribbing. The next step is to put steel I-beams under the house, slide it on to a trailer and drive it up to it's new location Simple as that!
The move will take place on Sept. 11th or 12th.
Drew and Natasha started their business in 1986 as a gift basket shop. It wasn't long before Natasha, who was educated at the Culinary Institute of America, realized that her talents in the kitchen provided a perfect means for expanding their enterprise-not to mention that Drew happened to be a mean baker. First they added a bakery, and five years ago they opened the restaurant. With so many tasks to attend to in this ever expanding country paradise, Drew and Natasha have hired many wonderful people, who all add something special to this country experience.
